Health and Money: Two Topics That Impact Everyone

Thomas Cox Birmingham Alabama

Whether you like it or not, you cannot ignore two important topics that impact everyone's life: health and money. Being consistently on the right track is key for both of these, and it's not usually one big event, but the small steps taken over a long period of time that lead to extraordinary health and wealth.

But let’s be honest, this topic can be quite boring. It can feel like you are not getting any results, yet the truth is that many times, this can be the necessary path to reaching your goals.

Key Habits for Improving Health and Wealth:

  • Eat real food

  • Exercise daily

  • Take ice baths

  • Use a sauna

  • Follow spiritual routines

  • Save consistently

  • Make small investments

Many people find it difficult to see the results of the actions they don't take, such as not consuming alcohol, sugar, and getting consistent sleep. But be patient, and we will talk more about these in detail later.

Is it Netflix or exercise? Buying the newest car? How we spend our time and money holds a tremendous impact on our future.

While health issues typically tend to be individual, money issues are systemic. We all live in a connected system where one person's decision can affect everyone else.

Why So Many People are Ignorant About Money Topics

Most people lack knowledge about money topics - that could be because it has never been talked about before. Money was, for many people, a privately discussed topic, not something to be shared with family or discussed among peers.

As parents, you get the chance to shape the narrative about money for your children. However, many people are not confident enough to do so, and this perpetuates a cycle of ignorance about money.

One thing we know is that compounding daily acts can lead to growth and success in areas such as health and money if done consistently.

The Power of Saying NO: Making Decisions and Making an Impact on Health and Wealth

Many times, it's the decisions we make to not do something that can have the greatest impact on both our health and wealth:

  • The decision to use the car we have instead of buying a new one.

  • The decision not to invest in a 'hot' stock that's been publicized on Twitter as the next big thing.

  • The decision not to have dessert because you already consumed too much sugar earlier in the day.

Many times, it's difficult to equate the results of the things we don't do, such as not drinking alcohol, reducing sugar intake, sleeping consistently, or watching Netflix vs. exercising. But saying NO is a superpower. When we say NO, we give ourselves the chance to say YES to 10x more things on our path.

Example:

If you are spending $300 per month for a car, and your parents started having the same conversation when you were born that, “it’s only $50 more dollars a month.”

When you're 12, the car payment now costs at least $600 a month. By the time you turn 18, it costs $750 a month - multiply that by 2 cars, and now you're paying $1500 a month for the cost of owning a car. For some people, that might not sound like much, but to many, it's astronomical!

Saying NO at the moment might be hard, but as time passes by - it becomes easier and liberating. As of writing this, I'm 43 years old, and I have never had a car payment. I have paid for all my cars in CASH. Some people think that's silly, but for me, it allows me to invest what I would be spending monthly on a car. This way, I compound earnings that can be used for a more significant investment.

Become Unstoppable:

Health and wealth are two topics that cohesively operate to make us unstoppable, while having neither makes us feel invisible. Most society falls in the middle and seeks ways to become unstoppable.

Here are some ways to become unstoppable:

  • Say NO to the crowd

  • Exercise daily

  • Eat real food

  • Learn the game of money

  • Become invaluable and name your price

  • Say NO to buying things that don't bring value.

In conclusion, it's vital to acknowledge that these topics can be boring and that the journey can seem frustrating while you make progress. But it's the daily actions that stack upon each other that make a massive impact. It's not necessarily about achieving your goal quickly, but rather about staying on the right path and making progress towards being the best version of yourself. As my dad says, "I'd rather be bored than be beat," and I couldn't agree more.
