During the midst of Rona 2020, Jackie and I decided to take our annual vacation. November served as a long, taxing month. With my father moving in, followed by his passing and a full plate at work, it quickly became overwhelming. Our kids have been resilient through it all, rolling with the punches. While, yes, it has been a hard time, these difficult moments better equip us to face the next obstacle in our path. Every now and then, you just need a break.
Jackie and I always like to get away, just the two of us. We do it once a year for several reasons; I even decided to dedicate a whole blog post to it. Stay tuned for this post.
After all the trials, we were dead set on taking the vacation. Back in September, we booked a trip to Antigua. Unbeknownst to us, Antigua changed their COVID-19 restrictions a week before our trip. We learned 48 hours before we were about to leave, after receiving our rapid COVID tests, that we would be unable to enter the country without the PCP test. After all of our setbacks, we were still determined to go on vacation. With a last-minute change, we decided to go to Playa Mujeres, just north of Cancun, Mexico.
We chose to stay at the Secrets Resort; it was truly spectacular.
The beach was one of the best beaches we have ever experienced. The water was gorgeous and clean with little to no seaweed.
The food wasn’t outstanding by any means, but it was good. However, the crowd was LOADS of fun. We had a blast partaking in a pool competition and several other activities offered at the resort.
One of the most important aspects of a vacation is to get some quality rest and relaxation. We were able to kick back and relax at the resort’s spa. Jackie and I both got a wonderful massage with a free Hydrotherapy session. This is one of my favorite things to do at all-inclusive resorts like Secrets. Most resorts have Hydrotherapy machines, but this one stood apart from the rest because it was outside amidst the beautiful scenery.
Here is a quick video from my Hydrotherapy experience.
We typically take one off-site trip when we stay at an all-inclusive resort. We stayed a total of four nights, so we only had time for a quick trip. Jackie and I decided to take a sailboat ride out to Isla Mujeres. It was a wonderful experience, even much so that we would love to take the kids back with us. We recommend using a group called Cancun Adventures. They were extremely professional and treated us with care.
Here is a quick video about our trip to the island.
The end of a trip is always bittersweet. It is nice to be away, but it makes you realize just how much you love and cherish being home. Playa Mujeres and Secrets Resort was definitely difficult to leave, but made it that much sweeter to think about returning one day with our kids.
I would love to answer any questions you may have.
